Tsuyama Cultural Center, which is located on the site of Tsuyama Castle, where a magnificent stone wall extending 45 meters from the ground preserves the vestiges of those days, was opened in 1966 as a “modern castle” where citizens can communicate and relax. It is also known as one of the most famous cherry blossom places in western Japan, which was selected as one of the “100 best cherry blossom places”, and is a symbolic hall of Tsuyama City.
In April 2020, the hall reopened its doors after undergoing a major renovation. The auditorium chairs have also been reborn as new chairs that give the impression of “Tsuyama City” while maintaining the impression they had before the renovation.
In renovating the auditorium seating, we raised three points, one of which was to maintain the impression of a hall that has been familiar to Tsuyama citizens for a long time.
The first is the “Tsuyama Castle-inspired design,” which became the renovation concept. The point is the “Sakura” city flower, which was incorporated into the chair’s upholstery pattern by FABRIKO, which is in charge of textile design for Kotobukisting .
A jacquard weave is adopted which can express a detailed and large pattern, and the raft of flowers swaying on the water surface is expressed with the motif of “cherry blossom” which is also used in the Tsuyama city logo. The petals shimmer and hide depending on the viewing angle, and you can feel the beauty of the cherry blossoms.
The second is to “inherit the image” of the living room before the renovation. All the wood and upholstery were red before the renovation, and the red color gave a strong impression to the seats. In the new chair, the red is used for the larger area of the upholstery, the wood of the back and elbows is dark brown, which adds the warmth of the wood to the beautiful impression before the renovation, giving it an elegant impression.
The third is “improved seating comfort” that adapts to the physique of citizens which has changed over time. The existing chairs at the time of construction were more compact in design than the current standard in size and shape, so improvements were required. The new chair is the TS-19 series, which offers comfort and functionality. By setting the front dimensions for one person and the seat surface, armrests and height to the current standard dimensions, it has become a comfortable environment without tiring even when looking for a long time.
The seat is a “spacer” that has a triangular shape when viewed from the side, since the part that the back of the seated person’s knee is thin, creates space for the feet when seated and also considers the ease of standing up by pulling the foot. In addition, the armrest has been designed to be used at the same time as another person giving it a mountain-like slope to enhance its functionality.
In addition, we have upgraded all auditorium seating with barrier-free seating by changing the center block of first-floor seating to a staggered arrangement and adding wheelchair seating and parent-child seating.
The Tsuyama Cultural Center has been reborn by inheriting the tradition. It is hoped that citizens will continue to love it as a symbol of Tsuyama City.
